CAROLINE CLEGG

Caroline’s connection to Mende began in 2005 when she read the book Slave. She couldn’t forget what she was reading and wanted to participate as a storyteller herself through theatre. Her mission was to bring Mendes’ story live on stage.

She began working on the screenplay together with Damien Lewis and Mende Nazer. On 23 November 2010, the premiere of the play took place at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester, UK. The majority of the foundation, including Mende, was in the audience that day. Everyone was deeply touched by both the play and Caroline’s sincere dedication to the theatre piece, so much so that she was invited to become part of the foundation.

Caroline founded Feelgood Theatre Production in 1994 and is herself a successful actress and award-winning director in theatre and opera. Since then, she has developed and directed all the shows herself. The themes of risk and adventure run through all her works. In 2004, Caroline was thrilled when Feelgood received a civic reception from the Lord Mayor of Manchester in recognition of the company’s actions. In 2005 she was named “Lancashire Woman of the Year” and in 2006 she received the “Angel Award for Excellence” and the “John Thaw Fellowship” from Manchester University in 2007. She was also awarded the “Manchester Evening News Horniman Award” for her “outstanding contribution to theatre performances”.
