Baronin (Caroline) Cox’s und Mendes Freundschaft begann direkt nach ihrer Befreiung im Jahr 2000. Sie unterstützte Mende, sich in ihrer neu gewonnenen Freiheit in Großbritannien zurecht zu finden.
1982 gründete Baroness Cox ein britisches Life Peer und war von 1985 bis 2005 stellvertretende Sprecherin des House of Lords. Sie ist Gründerin und Präsidentin von HART [Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust].
Ihre humanitäre Arbeit führt sie zu Konflikt- und Nachkonfliktzonen, wie z.B. die armenische Enklave von Nagorno Karabakh, Sudan, Südsudan, Nigeria, Uganda, die Shan- und Chin-Völker Burmas. Baroness (Caroline) Cox’s journey with Mende began immediately upon her freedom in 2000; she helped her during a very vulnerable period, while she started her new life in the UK as a freed person.
She was created a British Life Peer in 1982 and was a deputy speaker of the House of Lords from 1985 to 2005. She is Founder and President of HART [Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust].
Her humanitarian work takes her to conflict and post-conflict zones, including the Armenian enclave of Nagorno Karabakh, Sudan, South Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda, the Shan and Chin peoples of Burma. Previously, she visited communities suffering from conflict in Indonesia, helping to establish the International Islamic Christian Organisation for Reconciliation and Reconstruction (IICORR) with late former President Abdurrhaman Wahid. She has visited North Korea to promote Parliamentary initiatives and medical programmes.
Her recent publications include Cox’s Book of Modern Saints and Martyrs (with Catherine Butcher); This Immoral Trade: Slavery in the 21st Century, with John Marks and The Very Stones Cry Out, The Persecuted Church: Pain, Passion and Praise, with Benedict Rogers.
